Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, is a Mexican holiday that brings families and friends together to pray and remember the loved ones who have passed away and to help support the spiritual journey. Sugar skulls are a common offering to the spirits during this holiday, and they are exactly what they sound like, skulls made of sugar that are decorated with intricate designs, usually of flowers and other filigree. These ornaments are a fitting tribute to those sugary skeleton heads, with a little humor as well in their curly mustachioed smiles.
