We have all heard the saying, "Moves like a sloth." Sloths are known for their slow movements and spend most of the their lives hanging upside down from trees in Southern and Central American rainforests. Sloths are also great swimmers but pretty useless on the ground, so their behavior of hanging from trees is an evolutionary adaptation to protect them from the predators, hawks and cats who hunt them. Sloths have very shaggy coats, host to a symbiotic green algae that helps the sloth camouflage itself in the trees it hangs from. The algae also provides nutrients to the sloth. This cute little guy is a great animal ornament that the kids would like to hang on the tree or it is also perfect for a wild animal themed tree.
