The Pumpkin Twins have been gearing up for this all month. Hats perched, pumpkin buckets at the ready, they’ve each picked their best expression, one eager, one clearly unimpressed, for their big Halloween outing.

Christopher James has crafted this display for Seasons Gone By with a clever mix of vintage paper images and three-dimensional pieces that make this scene pop. Based on early 20th-century designs, the twins stand tall at 16 inches. Each wears a bold red suit with suspenders, topped with tall pointed hats trimmed in orange or black tinsel. The grinning twin clutches his black cat, while the other twin seems to second-guess this whole trick-or-treating business.

A black wood foundation embellished with orange and black festooning serves as the display's anchor. The whole area has a gentle Halloween glow from the warm light generated by a flickering electric candle. A little plastic pumpkin bucket hangs from a spindly tree with curling branches that is nestled between the twins.

To tie the entire display together with antique flare, a little framed "A Merry Halloween" sign with a black cat and pumpkins lies on the base next to another pumpkin bucket.
