With a small evergreen pressed to his side and boots peeking out beneath a scarlet coat, this figure stands at six inches and holds still in a quiet, upright pose. The Red & Gold Coat Santa Holding Tree by Ino Schaller is made from paper mache and finished by hand in Bavaria, Germany with each detail applied using materials sourced locally.
The surface shimmers with a lacquered red coat, its hem and hood rimmed in golden accents. His beard is clean white, and the tree he carries is brushed with a layer of white on its boughs. There's a sense of stillness in the way he’s holding it upright and close. This is a figure that doesn’t try to say anything aloud, yet still stands out with its upright composure, classical shape, and the unmistakable Ino Schaller finish.
Each piece in this limited production is made using the original antique molds developed by the Schaller family. On the underside is the signature and stamp that reads: "This limited production 'papier mache' is hand-made in the original antique mold in Germany by INO SCHALLER, Handcrafted in Bavaria, Germany.”
The Schaller family has continued this form of paper mache artistry for generations, and remains one of the few producers maintaining this particular process today. These aren’t mass-produced replicas or imitation materials. Every figure is cast, assembled, and detailed entirely in Germany, continuing a tradition with origins over a century ago.
This Santa stands upright on a clear, glitter-dusted base shaped like packed snow. His features are soft yet defined, his eyes painted with a pale blue that contrasts against the warm red of his coat. He is one of many figures in a long tradition of detailed paper mache work. Nothing about him feels rushed. Everything about the process that formed him comes from the same place.
