From Old World Christmas. The quick and agile chipmunk is a small, brownish, ground-dwelling squirrel typically 5 to 6 inches long. According to Native American folklore, it got its stripes when escaping from a bear whose long sharp claws left long pale scars on the little chipmunk’s back. Complete with stripes on its back, this fantastic chipmunk ornament is hand painted and glittered to look just like the real thing.
