Text on Old World hang tag: Santa Claus is derived from the European figure of St. Nicholas and stories by American writers who wrote children’s poems in the 19th century. As the holiday gift-giver, he became the folk hero all children dream about on Christmas Eve. This Santa helps out his toy-making elves by shopping for Christmas gifts.
