A carousel is a rotating circular platform populated with many 'seats' for the riders to sit upon while listening to the looped circus music. The seats are often horses of varying colors as well as mythical creatures or wild animals. The animal is on a post that goes up and down with the music, simulating the movement of the animals as if they are running or galloping!
